2012 HBA Global Expo

Last week I had the opportunity to attend the annual HBA Global Expo, an huge event dedicated to showcasing the business of beauty. As a blogger, I was grateful to be able to attend the Blogger Meet and Greet and Media Tour of the Splash Pavilion, an area of the Expo featuring new beauty brands.

The first brand I was introduced to was Grand Central Beauty. I got to meet the creator, Jackie (who is shown here applying their famous “skin perfecting” mask on an expo attendee). Being the great multitasker she is, Jackie was also able to tell me all of the wonderful details that GCB has to offer. The mask is seaweed based and it helps to sooth skin. Upon further research, the company boasts that the mask can sooth, moisturize, provide anti-aging benefits, reduce redness, and tone the skin all in a 15 minute treatment.

Grand Central Beauty Mask Application

Founder of GCB, Jackie, applies the mask to a participant.

With such bold claims, it was amazing to see the process in real time with this participant. My only regret is not having a before picture so you guys can witness the affect of this mask!

Another innovative feature about GCB’s skin mask is that you mix each application singularly which is cool because it means less contammination. Everything you need to mix is provided for you in their cute and convient packaging. you can even take a mixture individually with you if have to travel!

The mask dries to a rubbery texture after about a ten minute time span. And then, voila! Simply peel it off and you’re skin is renewed! I loved the GCB experience and can not wait to try it myself. Full review to come!

Grand Central Beauty Mask removal

Removing this mask is as easy as 1-2-3!

Dubbed a “deep conditioner for your skin” by it’s creator Linda Wang,  Karuna, also in the mask category, was my next stop. The product is a different type of mask based on a fiber cloth-like technology originally from Taiwan. The website actually says a wood-pulp shape.

As one of the few color cosmetics lines at the pavillion I was so excited to talk to founder of Lamik cosmetics, Kim Roxie.

Lamik Beauty Foundations

Gorgeous showing three out of twelve full coverage foundations that Lamik Beauty provides

The fabulous thing about the brand is that even though it’s a niche brand and small business, you can purchase Lamik Beauty at Macy’s! Yup, I’m always in Macy’s so I can not wait to try that foundation.

Lamik Beauty Motto

I’m loving their motto and 100% agree with this approach to makeup.

Next up was Me and The girls Skin Care. Another black-owned business which is focused on organic skincare. This fun, brand uses lush ingredients such as Cupacu Seed Butter which has loads of benefits.

For the next brand, let’s just call what they sell sensual beauty products, a niche that definitely has not been explored by most. The brief Naked Princess experience I had was fabulous. They had beautifully and lightly scented beauty products (totally meant for vanilla fragrance lovers)  that could double for everyday or for the boudoir. Now, get your mind out of the gutter because this brand is for the sophisticate and chic woman who is open to emphasizing her femininity.

Above featured their 24K love dust, that added a beautiful bronze glow to my skin and also smelled like their wonderful trademark scent!

I would say this candle is probably their standout product. It serves as both a body and boudoir candle. When lit it can make your ‘boudoir” smell nice and the oil from the candle can be used on your body. This candle is undeniably one of the best candles I have ever had the pleasure of smelling. I love this brand. I can not wait to review individually.

Nikki Saint Pierre Botanicals was another brand that caught my eye because of how many active ingredients the product contained. Also the creator’s skin was magnificent; there’s no better marketing than being able to visually show what your product can do.

Her products are mostly dry-oil based (definition of dry oil) and should be integrated into your normal routine because it’s designed to add a bunch of nutrients to your skin. Full review to come soon.

Spadaro Perfumes, created by a prolific woman whose story was incredible. As she was explaining her product I held on to every word simply because of the passion she exhibited for each perfume. The smells are exquisitely formulated and the presentation is feminine and dainty. I would be happy just owning one of the bottles for display.

Brow Pencil and Kajal eyeliner lovers will love Ziba Beauty and Sumita Beauty. Ziba Beauty is essentially a brand of eyebrow threading and Mehndi boutiques in California. The company has  expanded into color cosmetics in the form of liners. The products speak for themselves. The pigmentation of the liners are great!

Look at the pigmentation…perfection!

All in all HBA was amazing. I was introduced to some amazing brands and my mind was opened to so many opportunities that the beauty industry can have. I will be posting some video footage of the event shortly as well :)
