My doctor prescribed regimen

I caved in and saw a dermatologist

A month or so back I saw a dermatologist for the first time. I was always that teenager with the occasional pimple once month but maintained relatively clear skin. Suddenly junior year of college arrived and all hell broke loose on my face. Ever since, I’ve been struggling to figure out what works.

I did some research and found a highly recommended dermatologist in NYC who I concluded had a lot of experience with hyper-pigmented, acne prone african american skin (based on who I got the recommendation from). The experience was quite pleasant and very informative. I received some information on what type of ingredients I should try to stay away from, and why certain things might break me out. Ultimately I was most excited about being put on a regimen ( which in hindsight I thought of the regimen as akin to a magical solution). Check it out below:

My doctor prescribed regimen

Night Time:

  • wash with Dermalogica special cleanser (already had)
  • apply a pea-sized amount of Retin-A Micro (tretinoin gel) microsphere, 0.1% and 0.04% prescription)
  • moisturize with Mario Badescu hydrating serum (already had)
Day Time:
  • wash with Dermalogica special cleanser
  • tone with NeoStrata Oily Skin Solution (bought at the doctor’s office)
  • Apply thin layer of Acanya Gel (prescription)
  • Apply an oil-free Moisturizer with SPF
The one thing she did ask for was CONSISTENCY, meaningI needed to follow the regimen strictly for 6 weeks. On that note, I need to write a whole other post on the topic of consistency in terms of my beauty regimen. Will update soon on whether or not this has been working for me.
