Whatever Is Lovely Wednesdays: Beauty is Revealed

I love this motto coined by beauty brand Lamik, which I had a chance to preview at HBA EXPO. I love this because it’s true. No matter how much makeup you put on, if you don’t have a healthy self esteem, the makeup doesn’t make it better. Makeup should be fun and something that we apply simply because we can, not because we have to.

Personally, I’ve always had dark circles and hyper-pigmentation around my eye area. I never liked it and I used it as a way to harbor negative feelings about my physical appearance. When I discovered the wonders of concealer, nobody could tell me anything. I began to pile on the numerous eye shadows and powders etc. All of a sudden I felt not just pretty but glamorous. The first few times I had to leave the house without any makeup on, it was like my shield of comfort was ripped from me. I was now unsure how I felt about my physical appearance.

Fast forward to now, I feel as though I am comfortable in my skin. I’ve learned to take care of my skin better so I get more confidence in knowing that I’m doing all I can to maintain my skin. I also wear sunscreen religiously. If you have hyper pigmentation, bare skin exposure to sunlight will only make it worse. Now when I look at my bare face in the mirror I’m quite pleased. When I go out to special events, or if I know my picture will be taken I put on some makeup for a polished pretty look. I am no longer dependent on it.

When you start considering your self worth as more than how glamorous you look on any given day you won’t need two pounds of makeup daily as a crutch. I want to challenge all ladies who might hide behind makeup to look at where the dire need for it stems from. Also start looking at yourself as a whole. You are more than the makeup on your face. Let your true beauty be “revealed.”

Have your heard? Singer extraordinare Janelle Monae is the new face of COVERGIRL I appreciate Covergirl because it seems as though they try to have a diverse array of celebrity spokeswomen.

Whatever Is Lovely is a series that encourages the building up of one’s inner beauty. Every wednesday there might be a quote, an article, perhaps a spotlight of someone or simply sharing anything I find that will keep us taking care of number one (ourselves and our minds). The success of that ultimately depends on how we perceive and feel about ourselves.
